Nils Frahm *Tonight* In The Sanctuary ! Highly Recommended !

Hellos – Kindly pardon the extremely rare Thursday email, but we wanted to give some extra special love to this evening’s show, which we’ve been eagerly anticipating for months!Tonight, we are thrilled to be bringing back one of our legit favorite artists currently making music, the wonderful Nils Frahm, a Berlin-based experimental modern classical composer who has released some incredible records that defy easy genre classification (straddling the worlds of epic star-gazing synth, to intimate solo piano pieces, and everything in between) and is one of the only artists in this world who is KNOWN for being AMAZING live in concert.  His shows usually feature him on three pianos, an array of synths, electronics and gadgets.  An incredibly singular performer with an inimitable range of … MORE >>>

We Are So Excited – SLINT – May 1st – Union Transfer

Hi. We normally do not send out dedicated e-mails about one show but we are going to make the rare exception here. We are thrilled and beyond excited to announce that one of our all time favorite bands will reunite and play a rare live show at Union Transfer this spring.  For those who do not know, Slint hailed from Louisville. They were a bunch of teenage punk kids who out of nowhere wrote an absolutely seminal classic album, Spiderland. Without this band, most of the bands you love wouldn’t even exist. We wouldnt exist. Seriously. This band was the tipping point for us to get into “weirder” music in the mid 90s. Spiderland sounds as good and as relevant, and as darkly haunting, emotionally devastating … MORE >>>

PRFM – Helping Young Women In Afghanistan

Hellos! Last evening while scrolling down through pages of mind numbing facebook nonsense, I came across a truly inspiration video about a wonderful organization known as SKATEISTAN. An Afghan non-governmental organization that works with youth from a wide range of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds to build trust and to provide empowerment through a combination of skateboarding and education. Sounds pretty weird right? Given the current problems in Afghanistan (and in the world) you would imagine that skateboarding is probably the the last thing anyone in the right mind would care about. Until you watch this video below…. (click it!) Myself and most of the r5 staff comes from a punk / skating background (you know, back when you were a legit weirdo if you skated) and this … MORE >>>
