Electric Guest
Electric Guest
Asa Taccone and Matthew Compton–collectively known as Electric Guest–have confirmed an April 24 release date for their Danger Mouse-produced Downtown Records debut album, Mondo.

The record's release is preceded by utterly infectious first single "This Head I Hold," available now as a free stream http://soundcloud.com/electricguest/this-head-i-hold and released digitally on January 24. Single art is included above.

Meanwhile the thoroughly unsettling video for album cut "American Daydream," directed by Jorma Taccone (The Lonely Island, Saturday Night Live), will premiere across MTV's various platforms beginning January 23 on MTV, mtvU, MTV Hits and MTV.com.

Electric Guest will also be bringing its live experience, hailed by NYLON as "pretty much irresistible," to Los Angeles' Echo club for a free residency beginning Monday February 6 and continuing every Monday through the end of February. The free weekly 11 p.m. live sets represent the band giving something back to the Los Angeles homebase that has embraced it since KCRW named album track "Troubleman" a "Today's Top Tune" (http://www.kcrw.com/music/programs/tu/tu111101electric_guest_troub).

Following the completion of the Echo residency, Electric Guest will head out on a series of dates in the southwestern U.S., including their first visit to South By Southwest in Austin (Deatils TBD). See itinerary below and check back at ElectricGuest.com for updates.
New Look
New Look
You might imagine that New Look are offering a pithy comment on consumerist culture by assuming the name of a popular retail outlet (who said "chav mecca"?), but it's unlikely, because it only has branches in the UK (and France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates), and this duo are from Canada. Besides, they've got bigger priorities than poking fun at the peculiarities of British fashion, such as recording one of the albums of the year. We are fond of listing our new acts of the year (Odd Future, Jensen Sportag, StewRat, AlunaGeorge, Keep Shelly in Athens) and our tracks of the year, but we haven't given much thought to our albums of the year, mainly because there haven't been that many. But now we have a fine addition to the 2011 canon that includes such latter-day quiet-storm classics as Frank Ocean's Nostalgia, Ultra, the Weeknd's House of Balloons and Class Actress' Rapprocher.
Mock Suns
Mock Suns is a Philadelphia three-piece, formed in the wake of Giant Mind. With a sound that mixes heady phased-out jams reminiscent of Tame Impala with Grizzly Bear-esque jazz-drone pop, Mock Suns deliver their intimate reverie in patient, foreboding crescendos.
