Local Natives
Silverlake’s Local Natives have been making their way around the blogs lately, and understandably so. The quintet’s unique brand of indie folk highlights their tight vocal harmonies without sacrificing on rolling guitars, keys and percussion or sharp lyrics. Their laid-back and layered folk is a perfect way to wind down the rest of the winter — a warm, blooming cocoon of sound. They have already gained a foothold in parts of Europe-- their album has received attention in the UK and they graced the cover of Scandinavia's Sonic magazine late last year-- at home in L.A., and online. With good reason too: Advance singles "Airplanes" and "Sun Hands" recalled elements of Dodos or the Fleet Foxes. The best comparison perhaps is that they're sort of a West Coast Grizzly Bear. BEST NEW MUSIC !
We Barbarians
Jagged riffs, reverb heavy drums and anthemic vocals. atmospheric and ambient, their intensity is tantamount to the cold war kids or arcade fire. From California.
