Tape

Some folks try really hard to create pretty sounds, but there are those special folks who just naturally have some preternatural ability to create majestic beauty without it ever sounding forced or contrived. The Swedish trio Tape are shining examples of just such a group, able to make lush and textured sounds that are as engaging as they are pleasing. Songs that invite you in with warm swirling analog synths taking you along on a dreamy ride that feels like being on a tranquil slide up in the clouds. Tape really put to shame just about everyone else who try their hand at dreamy instrumental post-rock. Their songs aren't as simple as just being moody or melancholic instead they truly create their own world, one that glows with a cascading and illuminating vision. Highly recommended!

Mountains

AKA Koen Holtkamp and Brendon Anderegg. Acoustic drones, spectrally sifted electronics and a host of voices embedded in the background noise. Dense and effulgent pieces of electro-acoustic music. The Mountains have garnered some serious and well deserved praise through their wheezing and gorgeously textured soundscapes. At this point, plugging guitars into laptops seems like the oldest trick in the book, but in terms of outright creativity and maintaining a grasp on the sheer joy of sound, Mountains are right up there with the very best of them (Fennesz, Jan Jelinek etc).
