After months of speculation, rumors, blog posts and a posted tour date or two – it comes with great pleasure that we can officially announce UNION TRANSFER, a brand new venue opening up in Center City this September! Union Transfer will hold 600 people (with a flexible capacity to accommodate more people if/when we need to) in what most people know as “the old Spaghetti Warehouse” building at 10th and Spring Garden. What most people do not know is that the building was originally an old luggage depot station in the early 1900s originally named “Union Transfer” (that made picking a name so easy!) It’s a pretty dramatic space w/ sweeping arches, stained glass, old chandeliers and a whole lot of character. Along with the old furnishings we are adding what we think will be the best and biggest PA/Sound System in Philadelphia. We are thrilled to show it all off later this fall with a bunch of shows that we are really excited about.

The venue is a new joint partnership between myself, Bowery Presents (who book a ton of great shows in nyc and own a few venues of their own) and Four Corners Management (the folks who own Drinkers, Noche, Lucys and a few other bars around town). Over the next few weeks we’ll be revealing lots of new shows, pictures and all sorts of other information about the venue. Two things we are really excited to tell you about off the bat : the venue will feature AIR CONDITIONING (and lots of it !) and the venue will be ALL AGES with a separate bar area for those who are 21+ and would like to drink.

You can find more information about the venue at : www.utphilly.com as well as twitter.com/UnionTransfer and facebook.com/UnionTransfer. We encourage you to follow us – so you can keep up to date with our progress and get in the know about all the new shows that we’ll be bringing to Philadelphia in the fall! We just posted the first round of confirmed shows staring on September 21st with CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH (who are playing in a few weeks at XPN’s big outdoor festival!) as well as shows for the likes of RJD2, WILD FLAG, GILLIAN WELCH, BORIS, SHELLAC, WE WERE PROMISED JETPACKS, WORLD INFERNO FRIENDSHIP SOCIETY, MOGWAI, CSS, FRIENDLY FIRES, THE SEA & CAKE and lots more. You can get the details for all of these shows at www.utphilly.com

Tickets for the first round of shows go on sale online this Saturday (July 16th) at noon. Tickets can also be purchased without a surcharge at our box office at AKA Music (27 N 2nd Street / right above 2nd and Market Sts)

We’ll leave it at that for now. Again, lots more exciting stuff to come. Check out today’s Philadelphia Inquirer for a feature story written by Dan Deluca on the brand new room and this new partnership :
http://www.philly.com/philly/columnists/dan_deluca/20110712_Hot_and_cool.html

Ohh one last thing….. We are still doing shows at all of our usual spaces (including The Church!). R5 Productions will still continue to exist and we’ll be busier than ever with a new venue in our lineup !

Let’s get psyched for the fall! Up the punks (or something?)

Wow. Something must be in the air as of late. So many bands canceling. We had three bands cancel just today. Unfortunately DAN DEACON is seriously ill and could not make tonight’s show at The Starlight. Due to a funeral, LIGHT ASYLUM could not make their set tonight supporting YACHT at The Church.

We sat down, thought about it and got in touch with both camps. Having two separate “2 band shows” at The Starlight and The Church would kind of be weird. After many phones calls, text messages and e-mails – we got everyone on the same page to agree to combine both shows into one at The First Unitarian Church!

So tonight – Thursday April 26th at The First Unitarian Church (8pm)

Lightning Bolt / Yacht / Jeffrey Jerusalem / Ed Schrader /

Doors at 8pm. First set on at 8:20

All tickets for both show will be honored (ie if you have a Lightning Bolt ticket we will take it at the church)

If you want a refund – please get in touch . Any questions : Sean@r5productions.com

James Blake’s debut American tour sold out within minutes across the country. Since he only has a limited time here in the US, many of these shows have been moved to bigger venues – including Philadelphia. The James Blake show scheduled for Johnny Brendas on Monday May 9th has been moved to the First Unitarian Church. We know some of you guys who bought tickets wanting to see him in a more intimate setting are bummed, but we could not add a second show and James wanted to play to more people. The show is on the same date (Monday May 9th), doors are at 8pm, and the price of tickets is the same. All tickets already purchased will be honored. You will not have to do anything to transfer tickets. The will call list and the printed tickets that you purchased will be accepted at the First Unitarian Church (2125 Chestnut Street).

For folks buying “new” tickets to the church show – they will be WILL CALL ONLY. In an effort to prevent scalping for this one particular show, we are only selling will call tickets (as well as a few at AKA) starting this Saturday March 26th at noon. You will HAVE TO SHOW ID when claiming the tickets on the day of the show. You CAN NOT transfer tickets to another person’s name. After we discovered people selling tickets on Craigslist for $90, we hope you understand why….

Okay so here it is the confirmed date for our next big Punk Rock Flea Market. This being the SPRING edition (hopefully beating out the heat of the summer). Sunday May 22nd at The Punk Rock Flea Marketdome. The next one wont be till Christmas time again so don’t sleep. Sign ups begin This Sunday March 13th at noon.

We are trying to take just a tad bit of control in terms of what is being sold this time around. We noticed (aka got a bunch of complaints) that the people selling vintage clothes were going crazy with their space (aka stealing tables, bringing 6 clothes racks etc). So this time around we are putting all the clothing people in their own clothing land area. We’ll give you a bunch more room and free space, thus hopefully making the isles less congested and crazy. We hope you dont mind. We think it’s going to be a good thing. It’s important to note that there will be less tables made available to vintage / used clothing people – so sign up sooner rather than later

We also noticed a lot less people selling their old punk stuff (aka personal record collections, old band shirts, instruments etc). So to hopefully encourage more of that we are offering full tables for those who want get rid of their PERSONAL punky stuff for just $25! The catch….you have to get pre-approved. You dont have to fill out an application or anything, we just need to make sure you are not going to be selling other stuff by taking advantage of the deal. E-mail sean@r5productions.com to get in on the cheap cheap tables.

As always we have the personal and business tables. Business means that you are selling something that is NEW (this includes record distros, baked goods, band merch, record labels, funny t-shirts or art that you have created etc). Personal table means you are selling your old personal junk. We are also segregating these two tables this time around as well. So dont lie to us (aka sign up for a personal table to sell your weird art)

Table dimensions are 6X3 and include the space above, below and around the table. With the removal of the clothing people from the rows of tables – we hope to offer more space to other sellers. We provide the table, chairs. You provide the goods. Full check in instructions will be provided to you about two weeks before the big event.

Lots more details can be found on the registration page at :

Apparently in 15 minutes time all of those other destinations sold out. So now we are going to the dumb Bahamas. Bummer that another more exotic location didn’t work out but we will still be eating grilled cheeses on a tropical beach while drinking rum out of a coconut. Part of this whole deal is you only get ONE DAY in the location you are flying to – so if anyone has any tips on how to spend a day in The Bahamas – we are all ears. Pics to come!

Local Natives have canceled their confirmed May 7th show at Kung Fu Necktie show to play another show in New York City on that night instead. We are sad cause we never had anyone cancel a show with us just to play another show in another city 90 miles away on the same night. We are saddened by the news. However we are comforted by the fact that we live in a city of actual people vs 20 something trust fund kids from Idaho now “repping” Brooklyn in their $1800 railroad loft apartment. So maybe it all evens out? For those who purchased online tickets – refunds will be made automatically. For those who purchased tickets at AKA Music you can bring your tickets back to our box office for a full refund. Between now and their next Philly show – start thinking of clever insults or Philly centric items to throw at them (muslim beards, soft pretzels, snow (cause there will probably still be some on the ground come june), water ice etc.). Didn’t anyone ever tell these guys we were the 6th Burrough like 5 years ago (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/14/fashion/sundaystyles/14PHILLY.html) ?
