PLot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower - Break Up - Last Philly Show Ever

Post-hardcore band the Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower have announced that they will call it quits after their fall tour.

According to a statement, "The guys feel that as a band they have achieved everything they could have dreamed of and set out to do, including guesting on a Jayne County/Don Bolles project, touring around the world to OZ, Europe, NZ, and everywhere in between, and sharing the stage with almost every one of their favorite bands and friends.

"This upcoming tour is to say goodbye to all their fans and people [who] have supported them" . They'll play their lats ever show in Philadelphia on Nov 5th with An Albatross and Japanese band Zoooooom.

Three of the band's four members will continue to play and record together as the Prayers, who trade their old band's sound for a throwback to 60s pop. The Prayers have two late September dates in Southern California before the Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower tour begins in October.

Box Office Trouble =(

We have been running into some trouble with our new box office services at AKA Music (we switched to a new system/computer). It's been very "glitchy" working fine for hours - then suddenly not at all for the next two days. We are purchasing a new machine and promise to have it up and fully running by Friday at the latest. As always you can purchase tickets online at r5productions.com

We will not even begin to setup/announce/think about a second location until we can get this one fully functional...

We Hit The 900 Show Mark, 100 More To Go !

After ten long, weird, crazy and interesting (to say the least) years - we just celebrated our 900th show! That means we have dealt with over 3,000 bands and artists and at least a quater of a million people through the door. Yowzas.

We now just have 98 more shows to go to get the big ONE THOUSANDTH SHOW milestone. In theory we are going to attempt to do something "BIG" - there have been talked about doing something called "BEST BANDS EVER" fest where we bring in a super diverse bill of our favorite indie, punk, electronic, hiphop and metal bands to play over one weekend. It's looking like it might go down in February(ish). We are tentatively planning it out now. Details to come....

Any if any local-press is reading this, you should think about doing a cover story on us =) We have ten years of stories about police riots, 1/2 million dollar deals with upenn, being accused of herion dealers, battling with L&I, city council electrions, countless venue shut downs, battles with clear channel etc =)

It's Official - We Just Booked The Craziest Show Of Our Existence

Grammy nominated, Gold album recording artists THE CLIPSE will be playing a R5 show in the first week of November !

For those not in the known the clipse are a hiphop duo from Virgina Beach who blew up in 2002/03 with their #1 album - LORD WILLIN . You definitely know the two big singles from that album GRIDING and WHEN THE LAST TIME, both produced by Pharell and The Neptunes.

After becoming "THE" Hiphop group back then, selling a shit ton or records, being played on MTV every 5 minutes and appearing in every magazine ever - their label, Arista, messily merged with J Records. This caused THE CLIPSE to be shuffled to Jive/Zomba, an imprint historically unable to market gritty hip-hop.

For a brief moment, they sat idly, intermittently whining about their still-forthcoming album "Hell Hath No Fury" and plotting their return. But lacking the backing of den mother Pharrell Williams, who launched their careers with "Grindin'" and produced their entire debut with partner Chad Hugo, Clipse were toast. So, of course, in an attempt to stonewall Jive into voiding their contract, they recorded last year's most astonishing mixtape series, "We Got It 4 Cheap". Which made almost every critic's Top 10 of 2005 list. Including Pitchfork - which ranked it the 15th best album of 2005 as well as placing two singles #3 and #16 in their favorite singles of 2005.

With the strength/populariy of the mixtapes - and the new found popularity of their latest single - Mr Me Too (which has been on MTV like every single hour) their album will finally be released on Halloween of this year.

As Pitchfork says : "Starting this year, October 31 will no longer be known as Halloween. No, from now on, it will go down in history as the day that Clipse's long-overdue, highly anticipated, earth-shattering second album, "Hell Hath No Fury", is finally going to be released. A couple of lucky Pitchfork staffers heard Hell Hath No Fury, which was produced completely by the Neptunes, this week. They say there's "nothing close to filler" and it's "the best rap album of the year." That's all we're allowed to say about it right now, though."

Get familiar! We heard some of it and most of the tracks are sinisterly minimalist. It's fucking BONKERZ (and my own ringtone for the last few weeks)

Friday November 2nd 8:00pm
At The Starlight Ballroom

No More Tickets At Spaceboy - New Box Office By Weekend

Our longtime friends Spaceboy Music have closed it's doors for good.
No more jim winters portrait - no more fun times - no more club Spaceboy =(

That also means no more tickets / box office. But that will all change by Friday when we finalize our agreement for the new box office location(s).

So alas we will have to go a few days without "in person sales". Online sales via the internet will continue on as normal. We expect our box office to be back up and running by Monday at the latest. Thanks !

Dr. Octagon / Kool Keith On This Month's Wire Magazine !

From Wire Magazine .....
Hiphop's premier streetwise satirist and scatologist, Dr Octagon, is back - just one of the former Ultramagnetic MC's raft of comeback projects in 2006.

The Wire is the world's most known/famous/well respected avant garde music magazine. It was founded in 1982 by jazz promoter Anthony Wood and journalist Chrissie Murray. It know covers left-field rock and "post-rock" (a term coined in the pages of The Wire), hip hop, modern classical, free improvisation and various forms of electronic music. It continues to cover all of these and other forms of experimental music.

Dr Octagon will be playing Philadelphia on Friday September 8th at the Starlight Ballroom. Tickets are on sale now !

Ps.

(there is also a big feature on Charmlabides who are playing on Nov 10th - Nick Cain traces the 15 year development of Christina and Tom Carter's stream of cathartic song and crepuscular suburban blues )

Pointless Fest 2007 Security Announced - Best Solution Ever !

After meeting with The Philadelphia Police, local community groups and the Department of Licenses and Inspection - we have come to "the perfect solution". We recently flew down to Florida to meet this security "agent" who came so highly recommended. Known for his "preemptive strikes" against "train hopping punks" we have decided to hire his expert services for the next fest. This is one decision I hope which we can all agree upon.

Ladies and gentelmen, meet our new head of Pointless Fest security..........
