For Those WHo Don't Know About Holletronix :
There was something truly exciting about Hollertronix's Never Scared mix when it first emerged. It should've been a total no-brainer: of course I want to hear Southern rap and 80s synthpop and dancehall and Baltimore club all smashed up and thrown together and turned into ADD dance-party insanity. But the idea seemed almost transgressive way, way back in 2003, when indie-rock was trying to decide between snoozy cardigan-music and coked-up dancepunk and only a few nobly-intentioned but clumsy instigators (Gold Chains immediately springs to mind) were attempting to invite black pop music to the party.

Britpop dance-parties were dominating the indie-kid social network, and I was pretty deliriously happy to find out that anyone who would DJ at the Ottobar or wherever even knew who Trick Daddy was. And Never Scared was a pretty great DJ mix, fast and loose and well-mapped, its transitions and blends all close to impeccable. It was messy and slapdash, but it somehow came to represent an amorphous, omnivorous sort of musical worldview: there's a ton of fun shit out there to dance to, so let's find as much of it as possible. Slowly enough, the spazzed-up Hollertronix aesthetic won and now we've got a million club nights dedicated to Southern rap and baile funk and whatever, and companies looking to tap into hip young demographics started sponsoring the fuck out of it

Diplo Show Sold Out (and no you probably cant get a ticket)

So yeah - we decided to host DIPLO in as crazy and weird setting as possible - so we came up with THE PHILADELPHIA MUMMERS MUSEUM. And lots of people freaked out (especially when we announced there would be an open bar) and purchased tickets in advance. They were smart and made future plans. However because it's not "cool" to make a decision more than 24 hours in advance - most of you didn't and have been flooding our inbox all week long with questions about how to get tickets. Because this is a Philadelphia Museum - we can't jam pack everyone in the space till there is no more room. It's a Museum that needs to be treated with respect and caution.

There way be a slight chance we can release more tickets, but it's unlikely. Stay tuned to the webpage our myspace account

There will be an after party with DIPLO dj'ing till (if all goes as planned ) till 2/3am. We are just waiting to hear back from one more person and we'll be all good. We'll post those details as well as soon as they are confirmed....

THE CARDIGANS To Play The Church ? - Holy Shit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Insanity !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is by far our biggest show announcement of the year (so far!)

Sweden’s second biggest export after flat packed furniture return after a two-year absence with a new album ‘Super Extra Gravity’ - and they'll be playing their smallest most intimate show right here in Philadelphia at The First Unitarian Church. No, that's not a mistake, with likely dates at other "big time" venues such as Irving Plaza and the 9:30 Club - Philadelphia will be the only city to see the band in such a intimate/honest environment.

It’s been nearly ten years since The Cardigans first entered the public’s consciousness with the massively popular single ‘Lovefool’, featured in 'Romeo and Juliet'. The parent album ‘First Band On The Moon’ went on to shift over 2.5 million copies worldwide and - proving that they were no one trick pony - the follow up album ‘Gran Turismo’ released two years later also proved very popular. One more album followed before frontwoman Nina Persson jumpstarted her solo career (which she's been focusing for the last two years) and now The Cardigans will make a rare limited US tour stop here in Philadelphia to celebrate the domestic release of the new album. "A perfect slice of pop flavored indie that recalls their earlier hits"

Tickets are on sale NOW online at r5productions.com, Spaceboy Music (704 South St). or by calling 1-866-468-7619 (toll free). It's best to get them sooner rather than later as again this is their SMALLEST tour stop and Cardigan fans are DIE HARDS....

ART BRUT - TOP OF THE POPS !

Everyone's favorite UK rock heroe's ART BRUT
are returning to Philadelphia on Friday October 20th to play The Starlight Ballroom ! Yesssssssssssssssssssssss. We <3 this band soooooo much !

When you first hear them it might almost have you convinced that it's some lost '80s British post-punk band, that is, until you zero in on the lyrics. Majorly hipster, irony-laden, clever-clever phrases spoken-sung in such an over the top British accent that it nears jokeish Mark E. Smith impersonations. In the first song "Formed A Band" there's even a reference to it -- "And yes, this is my singing voice, it's not irony, it's not Rock'n'Roll, we're just talking, to the Kids." Pretty silly stuff playing dress-up in The Fall's closet. But still pretty darn cool. Funny rock anecdote / rumor: Art Brut's first single was on Rough Trade, who were also planning on releasing their full length, that is until supposedly one of the Rough Trade head honchos went and saw them play, decided they were the worst, most amateur rock band he had ever seen and had them promptly dropped from Rough Trade!

Friday October 20th 8:00pm
At The Starlight Ballroom / Club Polaris
460 North 9th Street (just below 9th and Spring Garden)
Philadelphia, PA
$12 / All Ages / 21+ To Drink

Holy Shit - Dr. Octagon Show !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is one of those rare times where I get all excited and nervous to meet the artist. One of the most inspirational and amazing hiphop artists of our time will be playing his classic album (as well as new material) on Friday September 8th.

DR OCTAGON (aka Kool Keith) managed to release perhaps the biggest "underground" weirdo pants hiphop album of the 90s. Featuring production from Dj Shadow and Dan The Automator with cuts from DJ Qbert, it quickly took off like wild-fire amonsgt indie rockers, backpack hiphop kids, drum and bass big pants wearers and normal boring adults alike. All of the attention landed "Dr. Octagon" a spot on Lollapoolaza (where he went missing for a few months) which only heelped his hype and mystery grow.

It's hard to exaggerate the role that Kool Keith's debut solo album as Dr. Octagon played in revitalizing underground hip-hop. It certainly didn't bring the scene back to life single-handedly, but it attracted more attention than any non-mainstream rap album in quite a while, thanks to its inventive production and Keith's bizarre, free-associative rhymes.

As if that weren't enough, the album launched the career of Dan the Automator, one of the new underground's brightest producers, and shed some light on the burgeoning turntablist revival via the scratching fireworks of DJ Q-Bert. The Automator's futuristic, horror-soundtrack production seemed to bridge the gap between hip-hop and the more electronic-oriented trip-hop (which has since narrowed even more), and it's creepily effective support for Keith's crazed alter ego
