...Except for that time at Penn's Spring Fling last year when they played for, like, twenty people.

the penn spring fling gig was fantastic and couldn't be spoiled even by the college-going cool cats too cool to uncross their arms and cut loose a little. whatsamatta hipsters, never danced at a show before?
went there with 2 pals with the intention of just hanging at the gate behind the stage, drinking a few smuggled beers, and listening (no one had the $20 cover, but we would have gladly paid if we did.)
by the way, words can't explain how crappy it feels to be asked "do you go to school here" when you're not a college student. your typical students usually aren't sporting painter's whites and covered in construction debirs.
so... we actually got to rap with lee for a few minutes when he showed up. a nice cat and mucho generous with his time. someone, i have no idea who, ended up giving us three free tix and we got to go in after all. crowd wasn't too lively, but the gig was great and the sonics were in top form. one of the best gigs i ever saw 'em play and i haven't missed a SY local gig since '95.
this show at the starlight is gonne be UN-FREAKIN'-BELIEVEABLE! i didn't find out about it till yesterday and, needless to say, i was on the bus and heading downtown within minutes to score my tix. saw them at the troc in '01 with my wife and i thought that was pretty intimate, but the starlight is gonna be something else. can't wait.
